FOLK CONCERTO Festival is born on a Giuseppe Possedoni's project in 1998, in Ancona, Marche, Italy, and, as the first, has introduced in the Marche the traditional folk music, commonly more known as 'celtic', of the european and atlantic areas (Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, United Kingdom, Galicia, Asturias, Canada etc.) where it has been preserved more, presenting its best performers. The Festival's regional dimension, acquired in 2004, is the most suitable for a festival like Folk Concerto, since the historical role of Gallic Senoni, also called Adriatic Celts, who settled down Marche region in the IV century b.C.. According to the greek historian Polibio, a group of Gallic Celts crossed the Alps and, after having driven out the Umbrian population, settled down the east coast of Italy, from Rimini region to Ancona area, in the territory that was nominated Ager Gallicus, mainly in North Esino river. Occupying the areas of Rimini, Fano, Jesi, Monte San Vito, Piobbico, Cagli, Suasa, Ostra, Metauro, Misa and of Cesano rivers' valleys and more, the places of Montefortino of Arcevia, Serra San Quirico, Sassoferrato (Sentino), Fabriano, they went on to Filottrano, Osimo, Matelica and Camerino, settling their capital in the place ever since called Sena Gallica (today Senigallia). The overcoming of the celtic invasors didn't bring to the extinction of the local pre-existent populations, otherwise caused a pacific coexistance. The ancient presence of such a population in the Marche region is just what makes this Region one of the most qualified parts in Italy, in getting the name of "celtic region". That's why since 1998 Folk Concerto is proposing more and more these historical elements (not so much known by the most of region's people, but superbly attested by the archaeological rests exposed at the National Archaelogical Museum of the Marche, Ancona), calling back their heritage through concerts able in evoking the charm of the autochthon cultural roots of the Continent, so as they have been evolving during the centuries, integrating with various, later other civilizations' contributions.
